Resolutions are meant to be broken

I did really well until Jan. 15th with all my resolutions. However, here it is on the 20th and I have managed to break everyone of my resolutions. I guess that I should be grateful that I made it to the 20th, as that is probably the longest I have ever gone with any of my resolutions. Oh well.

I have had a few interesting experiences the last few days. I went to a human trafficking seminar that scared me to death. I had to ask someone to walk with me to my car afterwards, as I was afraid to walk alone, for fear that someone would abduct me before I got there safely. The seminar reminded me how blessed I am, and it made me a little more grateful for Utah, as it seems a little safer than most places, particularly the "riot district" of Columbus, where my car was parked. Anyway, it was good to be reminded that human slavery still occurs worldwide and that there are things worth fighting for.

I went to an ex-offender meeting last night, and was literally in the minority. This wasn't a new experience for me, as I was always in the minority in Peru. However, I was the only white person there until I was joined by two co-workers. I was surprised when we were pretty much kicked out of the group, because we were talking about advocating for rights for ex-offenders, more than the group leader wanted. He wanted to solely focus on employment, and could not handle it when we started talking about finding resources for ex-offenders, such as housing, food, and clothing. It was also a very interesting meeting to participate in.

My internship is going really well. We have done a lot of practicing. I was nervous to work with this particular group of women, as none of them are members of the church. I have been made fun of a few times for things like making it through my undergrad degree without tasting a drop of alcohol, which isn't hard to do when you attend the #1 stone-cold sober institution in the nation. They have also asked a lot of questions about polygamy and the word of wisdom, since I have not joined them for smoking breaks or coffee runs. It has been pleasant to make acquaintances with these girls despite our differences, which I never saw happening. Anyway, that is a run down of the past few weeks, for anyone who was wondering what was going on in my life.

One last plug, I am applying for an internship at the Counseling and Consulation Service. This internship starts September 1, 2010 and would pay half-tuition, plus a monthly stipend. It also happens to be my dream job. So please, remember me in your prayers that I can use my experience to help me get this job. I really need the half-tuition.
